About Symone Sanders
Sanders emerged onto the Democratic political scene at age 25, when she became the national press secretary for the 2016 presidential campaign of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders. That accomplishment made her the youngest presidential press secretary on record. Sanders also served as senior advisor for President-elect Joe Biden's successful 2020 presidential campaign and was subsequently named as chief spokeswoman for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
As a leading political strategist, Sanders draws on her experience to share insights about social justice, diversity, and the ongoing political scene in the U.S. Symone challenges audiences on the conventional wisdom that strong communities depend on total unanimity and accord to thrive. Instead, she argues that diversity and debate can create healthy, sustainable social movements. Sanders brings attention to the issue of juvenile justice reform while providing a millennial’s perspective to debates about government policy.
Sanders started in progressive politics early in life; at age 16 she impressed former President Bill Clinton with her speech introducing him at a luncheon. The former president later mentioned Sanders in his book Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World.
Sanders is the past chair of the Coalition for Juvenile Justice’s Emerging Leaders Committee and former member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice. She is the principal of the 360 Group, LLC., which consults for organizations, businesses, individuals, campaigns, and candidates.
