Uzbekistan Graduate Team Completes Regional Roadshow
June 25, 2021
In April and May, the graduate recruitment team completed regional trips visited eight regions throughout Uzbekistan. The team was comprised of university leadership, professors, program coordinators and admission counselors, who spoke about the current graduate programs of Webster Tashkent, the MBA, MA Teaching English as a Second Language (MA TESL), and MA Education and Innovation (MA EDIN) – the latter being a new program which will launch in Fall 2021.
The team visited 47 universities and gave presentations to thousands of students. Through interaction at local schools and universities, staff noticed that there is a rising interest in American-style education in Uzbekistan.
All three graduate program coordinators, as well as admissions staff and faculty, were involved in the recruitment effort. They found that both university students and their instructors were interested in Webster’s master’s program offerings. They shared the wish to take classes at a university where English is the language of instruction, and earn an American diploma, since these are seen as global mobility tools.
The roadshow allowed Webster’s staff to build new connections with universities and high schools around the country. In Urgench, Khorezm region, and Nukus, Karakalpakstan, University management expressed interest in establishing cooperation with WUT through a memorandum of understanding. In Khorezm City, a number of high schools requested that Webster staff and faculty hold workshops on their premises.
The visits also leveraged connections with other organizations. During the team's visit to Termez, Surkhandarya region, Webster staff became interested in contributing reading materials to the U.S. Embassy-funded American Corner, planned to open in the city.
The national tour was intensive. In some city visits, the team covered seven universities. Through this work, the graduate team kindled the interest of university students and faculty in Webster programs, and informed them about their opportunity to access world-class education.
