Welcoming Study Abroad Students to Our Campus

Student life is an integral part of the educational experience at Webster. Not only is it a chance to meet and form connections with students from all over the world, but it also exposes you to new interests, ideas, and opportunities for personal growth. To get the exchange students well acquainted with our campus, the Student Resource Center offers a Study Abroad Student Orientation.

“Once in Vienna, our students attend an orientation which introduces them to the various WVPU services and campus facilities,” says Student Resource Center Officer, Serena Giacomin. “It’s also their opportunity to connect with current WVPU students,” says Serena. Through a series of workshops, meet-and-greets, and presentations, you can begin your path to excellence with confidence and assurance in the community around you. “We offer advice and support in finding authentic Viennese experiences. From foods to museums or music and theater, there is a bit for everyone to discover in Vienna,” says Serena.

While you study in Austria, you can also make the most of community-building clubs and activities that will enrich your time abroad. From our Student Government Association and Model United Nations to Football and Psychology club, there’s something for everyone on our campus. With all that WVPU has to offer, you’ll find countless ways to connect with the community around you.

Housing Resources for Study Abroad Students

Students enjoying life in ViennaFor students coming to Vienna from the Webster network, “student housing is organized in collaboration with The Student Hotel, which provides a different environment for students to connect and discover the city,” says Serena Giacomin.

Where else, for exchange students who come to Vienna within the Erasmus+ program, the Student Resource Center will help them find the perfect accommodation in the city. Although WVPU does not provide its own accommodation, the university partners with housing providers to offer a variety of options to students. Whether you’re looking to live in an independent apartment, a shared dormitory, or a mix of the two, the housing services at Webster are there to find the best option for your needs while you study abroad in Vienna.

Student dormitories can be found in a number of locations around Vienna, ranging from modern-design apartments to cozy student rooms, to shared flats. Most dormitories come fully furnished and many offer access to impressive community spaces. For example, The Student Hotel - located 10 minutes by public transport from campus - features an on-site restaurant, bar, and gym. Likewise, STUWO Student Housing offers amenities such as wellness rooms, saunas, and music rehearsal rooms.

Navigating Essential Services While You Study in Austria

Students utilize resources inside the classroomOur Student Resource Center places a strong emphasis on supporting study abroad students prior to their arrival in Vienna. Much of the advising is done in the pre-departure phase so that students will be ready to dive into their academic studies with the reassurance that they need. This covers administrative processes such as how to navigate the Austrian health insurance and registering your address once in Vienna.

While visa applications may be processed only by Austrian immigration authorities, Webster Vienna can direct you to important information on deadlines and resources to support students during the process. Furthermore, “just before departure, study abroad students are led through the steps to take before leaving Austria and making sure that their semester abroad is a great memory to take home,” says Serena.
