Gain Hands-On Experience Through Internship Opportunities
We were able to chat with a current student at WVPU for some insight into how her program has been preparing her for the future. Aika Maeda, a fourth-year Psychology student from Osaka, Japan, told us, “I have had valuable experiences (jobs and internships) to develop my communication, organization, as well as creative skills.”
Aika mentioned that one of her most valuable opportunities was the Trainee Internship at the Student Resource Center which “provided me with hands-on experience for my future job.” WVPU’s Career Services team supports students by providing first-hand recruitment opportunities with large companies, SMEs, and organizations, individual career coaching and consulting sessions, networking events, and much more.

Improve Job-Specific Communication and Interpersonal Skills
While earning her psychology undergraduate degree in Vienna, Aika noted that “the skill I specifically learned is how to communicate with others – whether it be on issues within psychology, discussing future dreams, or a research topic.” She went on to talk about the nature of the learning environment here at WVPU. She stated that “Webster is not all about conventional learning techniques such as listening, reading, taking notes. You get an equal amount of opportunity for output. You get to present, you get to think together, and these interactions are valuable to ANY career that you can choose.”
We were able to get another perspective from a third-year psychology student, Stefan Pavlovic, who studied abroad in the U.S. for a semester. He opened up to us about the opportunities that he was able to pursue while abroad, noting that his psychology degree has “opened up a lot of different doors” for him. “I’m learning to think in a way that is very practical, efficient, and effective. I’ve had the opportunity to speak with professionals in management and HR, and the doors are definitely open, especially with a psychology degree,” he added. Through scientific, philosophical, experimental, and theoretical approaches to learning, students at WVPU are able to develop and apply their problem-solving skills as well as develop their communication skills.
Broaden Your Perspective When You Study in Europe
Aika sees many benefits to studying psychology, saying, “I believe that learning psychology is helpful to any future career, since you always interact with people, and any job you choose involves people in one way or another. Learning psychology at Webster deepens my understanding on how to interact and communicate with others, and it broadens my perspective as I can get an international perspective of a single topic.”
Both psychology students that we spoke with also deeply valued the GCP (Global Citizenship Program) courses they have been taking while they study in Europe. “I find the GCP programs the most useful and meaningful to my career goals. The psychology classes alone will not help me reach what I exactly want to be. It is helpful to also gain experience in history, media, arts, or business,” Aika observed. Stefan also weighed in, saying that “I really like the fact that GCP courses are included, they help me gain a lot of new perspectives.”
Students at Webster gain a unique, global perspective thanks to our comprehensive
curriculum and Global Citizenship Program
As a final piece of advice for any prospective students excited to apply to Webster, Aika remarked: “don’t be trapped in a student mindset! University is one of the last steps to reaching a career, and it is not a one-way learning like middle or high school. Think from a psychologist perspective, a business owner perspective, marketer, writer…. Anything you want to become! You are not just learning. You are exploring. Never be scared to get involved in the Webster events or organizations!” She can’t wait for the next round of students to take advantage of opportunities to reach their full potential.
