Webster University Welcomes Alarm Will Sound To Campus

Land of Winter, Alarm Will Sound save the date

Alarm Will Sound, a world-renowned new music ensemble, will visit the Webster University campus on Sunday, Oct. 8 for a performance of Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy’s new evening-length work, Land of Winter.

The title of the work comes from the Latin name for Ireland, Hibernia, which translates as “land of winter.” This exciting new work will explore the play between light and time as they relate to the seasons of the year. Alarm Will Sound premiered Land of Winter in 2022 at Beethovenfest Bonn in Bonn, Germany.

"Donnacha's Land of Winter is a magical journey, and among the most exciting works ever created for Alarm Will Sound. We're all looking forward to bringing it to Webster University," said Alan Pierson, Alarm Will Sound artistic director/conductor.

Hailed as “one of the most vital and original ensembles on the American Music scene” by The New York Times, Alarm Will Sound commissions, performs, and records innovative works by established and emerging composers, especially works that incorporate theatrical and multimedia elements by choreographers, visual artists, designers, and directors.

"We are truly excited to welcome Alarm Will Sound to the Webster campus," said David Werfelmann, director of the Bachelor of Arts in Music program at Webster University. "This remarkable ensemble has consistently pushed the boundaries of contemporary music both in the United States and internationally. Their commitment to innovation resonates deeply with our own departmental values of creativity and excellence in musical performance. It's particularly exciting that our campus will serve as the backdrop for the St. Louis premiere of Donnacha Dennehy's Land of Winter. This promises to be an enriching experience not just for our students but for the wider St. Louis audience."

This performance is part of Webster's new NEXUS Concert Series which highlights the University's commitment to recognizing and celebrating the musical ingenuity that is born, nurtured, and flourishes right here on our campus.
