Schuster Selected to Serve as Observer in Uzbekistan Presidential Elections

Julian Z. Schuster, President of Webster University, was appointed as an official observer for Uzbekistan’s presidential elections on July 9. President Schuster witnessed the voting process in central voting venues 7, 15, 28 and 67 in Samarkand. This notable responsibility reflects President Schuster's commitment to advancing democratic processes and furthering Webster’s mission of cultivating responsible global citizens. 
 
As an observer, President Schuster played a crucial role in ensuring the integrity, fairness, and transparency of the electoral process. His primary responsibilities included monitoring and assessing various aspects of the election, such as voter registration, campaigning, voting procedures, and ballot counting.

"I am honored to be selected as an observer for the presidential elections in Uzbekistan,” President Schuster said. “Participating in the electoral process of a vibrant nation like Uzbekistan is an opportunity to contribute to the promotion of democracy and good governance. I am looking forward to observing the proceedings and engaging with the local community during this important time."

As an international observer, President Schuster engaged with journalists and bloggers to share his perspectives regarding the election. He gave several commendations regarding the electoral process while fielding inquiries from the media. The president’s engagement with the media and bloggers aided in disseminating information about the elections to a wider audience, promoting transparency and fostering a more democratic dialogue.
