During the nearly 90-minute meeting, the students and Jones explored ways in which the mayor’s administration can help eliminate barriers to their academic success and professional development. Other topics included access to public transportation, affordable housing, public safety and the opportunities for long-term employment after graduation. The meeting was initially set up by Webster University Alumnus Gilberto Pinela, the inaugural director of Mayor Jones’ newly established Office of New Americans. Pinela also serves as the vice president of Webster’s Alumni Board of Directors.
