US Election Results and Global Impacts: Expert Reflections at Webster Vienna

Webster Vienna Private University (WVPU) recently hosted two high-profile events which assessed the global implications of the 2024 United States election results.
United States Ambassador to Austria Victoria Reggie Kennedy and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin addressed a large crowd at Palais Wenkheim, followed a few days later by a discussion with WVPU’s Samuel R. Schubert, PhD, and Bradley Wiggins, PhD, as well as Erin K. Jenne, PhD, of Central European University (CEU).
“Webster Vienna has served as a platform for political outreach and diplomacy for more than 40 years. The university represents American values and offers an American-style education in the heart of Europe. Events such as these elections panels foster meaningful public discussions that are a service to the international community,” said Schubert, Webster Vienna’s associate director.
“Webster Vienna looks forward to building upon and expanding its great cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Austria for years to come,” Schubert said.
Leadership and the U.S. Presidency
Ambassador Victoria Reggie Kennedy and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin lead a session onstage examining the potential implications of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.
On Nov. 18, Palais Wenkheim hosted Ambassador Victoria Reggie Kennedy and award-winning presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. The discussion, entitled "Leadership and the U.S. Presidency,” was organized in partnership with WVPU and the U.S. Embassy in Austria, and was widely reported upon in Austrian media. Associate Director Schubert introduced the esteemed guests, who shared expert insights with more than 200 guests from Vienna’s international community as well as students, faculty and staff. The panelists analyzed the lessons history offers for today’s leaders and assessed the political and social implications of the recent U.S. presidential election results.
Quo Vadis America? The Global Consequences of the 2024 U.S. Election
WVPU continued its examination of contemporary U.S. politics on Nov. 20 with a roundtable discussion entitled "Quo Vadis America? The Global Consequences of the 2024 U.S. Election." The event was organized by the WVPU International Relations (IR) Department in collaboration with CEU.
Erin K. Jenne, PhD, head of the IR Department at CEU and author of Nested Security, took the stage along with Schubert and Wiggins, who serves as head of the Strategic Communication Department at Webster Vienna.
This faculty-led event brought together leading academics to explore the far-reaching impacts of America’s electoral decisions on global foreign policy and transatlantic relations. Each speaker offered a unique perspective on the outcomes of the 2024 election season.
