Webster University Introduces the First AI-Powered Degree Navigator

Webster University

Webster University unveiled the first-ever AI-powered degree navigator, designed to help prospective students craft a personalized academic path that aligns with their interests, strengths, and career goals.

The innovative program, powered by advanced artificial intelligence, guides students through a dynamic questionnaire and analyzes their responses to generate a tailored degree plan, including interdisciplinary degrees that draw on multiple academic programs. Whether a student is drawn to business, communications, technology, nursing, K-12 education, the arts, or any of the University's offerings, the system curates an individualized plan that could include core classes, and international study opportunities. It also delivers information on potential career positions and projected salaries to help the student figure out the best path for their future.

“We are revolutionizing higher education by using AI to create truly customized learning experiences,” said Webster’s Vice President of Enrollment Management Lisa Blazer. “Studies have shown that more than half of all college students will change their majors before completing a program, which then adds to the time needed to graduate and increases their costs. This innovative program is designed to help students find the programs that best address their core interests while also saving them time and money in the long run.”

Through an interactive series of questions, students receive a specialized academic roadmap. For example, a student with a passion for entrepreneurship and digital media might receive a recommendation to enroll in an interdisciplinary business and communications degree with an emphasis on social media. That path would suggest classes from the George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology and the School of Communications. A student with a passion for educational movies may be directed to Webster’s Film, Television and Video Production program and programs in the School of Education.  And a student with an interest in how music has impacted the development of societies may be directed to courses in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts and the history program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The program also integrates hands-on learning, recommending internships and study-abroad options at Webster’s seven global campuses in Europe and Asia.

This pioneering initiative reflects Webster University’s commitment to innovation and student success, while also making education more accessible by showing students the best paths for their academic journeys.
