February 04, 2026

St. Louis, MO – Webster University, a private nonprofit university with more than 100 years of history in the St. Louis region, and Scale AI, a San Francisco-based technology company that provides the high-quality data that powers the world’s AI models, and builds applications for enterprises and governments, today announced a new technical writing program to meet the rapidly growing demand for professionals who can support AI-enabled industries.
Launching this spring, the nine-credit technical writing program will offer valuable upskilling development opportunities to Scale AI employees in St. Louis. Webster’s collaboration with Scale AI reflects its commitment to aligning its academic offerings with real-world, evolving industry needs as it prepares learners for high-impact careers in AI-enabled fields of the future.
“Partnerships like this one reflect one of Webster’s core priorities—bringing education to the communities and industries where it is most needed,” said Webster University Vice President of Academic Affairs Michael Hulsizer, “Graduates will leave with highly sought-after technical writing and information-synthesis skills that are critical in today’s AI-driven economy—skills that open doors for nontraditional students and working professionals alike.”
Since opening its doors in 2021, Scale’s St. Louis AI Center has created more than 200 opportunities providing AI capabilities that support critical missions for U.S. government customers. As part of the new certificate program, members of the Scale AI workforce will be able to enroll and apply their work experience to accrue credits toward completion. The technical writing program further expands Scale's commitment to the St. Louis area, helping to strengthen the region as a hub for commercial innovation and public-private partnerships.
“As AI adoption accelerates across technology, defense, government, healthcare, logistics, and beyond, the need for highly trained technical writers has become mission-critical,” said AJ Segal, Head of the St. Louis AI Center at Scale AI. “These opportunities involve interpreting complex data, translating technical concepts for diverse audiences, and ensuring accuracy, transparency, and safety in AI-driven workflows. The skills professionals will build through the program will help ensure America’s global edge in AI.”
