Ghana Campus Celebrates Third Commencement Ceremony
May 15, 2017
The Ghana Campus held its third commencement ceremony at the forecourt of the new campus location in East Legon, Accra.
The class of 2017, supported by their families, friends, faculty, alumni, and fellow students, obtained their Masters degrees in international relations and business administration.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries such as the director of Tertiary Education in the Ministry of Education, Eva Haizel, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, Melinda Tabler-Stone. Also in attendance was Audrey Gadzekpo and Judith Adoo, advisory board members of the Ghana Campus, as well as Hagar Thompson, coordinator of accreditation committee meetings from the National Accreditation Board.
Addressing the graduating class, Ghana campus director, Christa E. Sanders, reminded the graduates that they have become part of an elite network of more than 192,000 Webster University alumni from around the world. She emphasized that they are not only distinguished global citizens but they have been well prepared to meet the challenges and demands of an ever-complex world.
Speaking on behalf of the Class of 2017, Nadege Afoutou, the Valedictorian, shared memories the class created together, and thanked Webster University for the lessons the institution had taught them.
Daniel Fennell, Acting Deputy Ambassador of the U.S. Embassy, gave the commencement address. Fennell, who was substituting for U.S. Ambassador Robert P. Jackson, who was unable to attend, challenged the students to always aim high. He shared some of his experiences, and told the graduating class that the qualifications gained had empowered them to create changes around them and throughout the world.
The moment of excitement and the crescendo of the ceremony was when the degrees were conferred on the graduates. Three faculty members Agnes Khoo-Dzisi, Samuel Simpson, and Esther Armah took turns acknowledging the hard work, discipline, and outstanding achievements of the graduates.
Special mention was given to Priscillia Holdbrook for receiving honorable mention for the second best Masters thesis in international relations within the entire Webster network in 2016.
