Student Life Hall of Fame to Induct Five New Members

Daniel (Dee) Goines ’08, Lauren (Meyer) Hoggatt ’10 & ’12, Mario Santander ’09 & ’11, Mathias Jackson ’06 & ’07, and Tyler Holman ’12 have been selected as the newest members of the Webster University Student Life Hall of Fame. They will be inducted at a ceremony to be held during Homecoming Weekend, on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at 7 p.m. in the University Center Sunnen Lounge.

The Student Life Hall of Fame recognizes those individuals who demonstrated an outstanding commitment to improving student life at Webster University through campus, or community, involvement and/or participation in organized campus activities. It is one of the most prestigious honors awarded by Student Affairs at Webster University to former student leaders and employees who had a significant impact on student life. Recipients are primarily recognized for their contributions to student life while on campus. A perpetual plaque and photos of the inductees will be displayed in the University Center.

Daniel (Dee) Goines

Daniel (Dee) Goines graduated in 2008 with a BS in speech communication studies. He was heavily involved in student leadership positions on campus, including such highlights as serving as president and vice president of the Student Government Association, assistant hall director and resident assistant (RA) in Housing and Residential Life, student manager for the women’s basketball team, mascot performer, and membership in many student organizations, such as Residential Housing Association, National Residence Hall Honorary, Forensics and Debate.

Goines went on to earn a master’s degree in higher education administration at Saint Louis University, where he also served as a senior residence hall coordinator for three years. His career in higher education includes stints as academic advisor at the University of Texas at Dallas and resident director at Santa Clara University. He currently serves as assistant director of housing and residence life at the University of North Texas at Dallas, where he is leading the effort to build the university’s first residence halls. He will become director of housing and residence life on Sept. 1.

In addition to Goines' work in higher education, he is CEO of Goines Security LLC, which has included serving clients such as the San Francisco 49ers, Taylor Swift, The Grateful Dead, and Luke Bryan. Dee is married to Patrice Deanae’.

As an alumnus, Goines has returned to campus as a presenter at annual leadership awards ceremonies. His nominator commented that Dee seemed to be the most involved person on campus. In every sense, Goines was a role model. He was everywhere and everyone knew him. He encouraged countless other students to get involved through his magnetic personality, because of their desire to “be like Dee.”

Lauren (Meyer) Hoggatt 

Lauren (Meyer) Hoggatt graduated in 2010 with a BS in business administration, and in 2012 with an MA in human resources management. Lauren served in a variety of leadership roles as an undergraduate, with highlights including: serving as student coordinator of building operations for two years and resident assistant (RA) in housing and residence life, student member of the search committees for the president and the associate provost, student member of the master plan committee, presenter (2x) at the Delegates’ Agenda, president of Student Ambassadors, and was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary.

She also served as the graduate assistant for WebsterLEADS and the learning communities, and was the student speaker at the groundbreaking ceremony for the East Academic Building. As an alumna, she has returned to campus frequently, including serving as the closing speaker at new student orientation, and as a presenter at annual awards ceremonies.

Following graduation, Hoggatt has worked at the Lockton Companies for the past five years, first as an account executive and now as a communications consultant. She is married to Darin Hoggatt, a 2008/10 graduate of Webster who was inducted into the Webster Athletics Hall of Fame in February 2017. They have a 2-year-old son, Miles.

Hoggatt's nominator commented on the important role that she played in the development of the learning communities, both as an RA and then as a graduate assistant. She also transformed WebsterLEADS in many ways. She built long-lasting, meaningful relationships with other students through her many leadership positions.

Mario Santander 

Mario Santander graduated in 2009 with a BS in business administration, and in 2011 with an MBA. Mario served in a variety of leadership roles as an undergraduate, with highlights including: serving as a senator in the Student Government Association, resident assistant (RA) in housing and residence life, Delegates’ Agenda presenter, and member of Student Ambassadors, Latin American Students Organization, and Students in Free Enterprise. He also served as a student building manager and reservations coordinator in the University Center, and as a graduate assistant in the Walker School of Business and Technology.

Following graduation, Mario worked for Graybar for four years, as an analyst and sales agent. Since 2015, he has worked in sales for Potter Electric Signal, specializing in Latin American and the Caribbean. He has served as vice president for the Webster Alumni Board, volunteers his time as an alumni mentor, served on the planning committee for the 2017 Global Student Leadership Summit, served as a presenter at annual leadership awards ceremonies, and has been active with the Webster Young Alumni Chapter.

Santander's nominator commented that he combined his leadership skills, business knowledge, and cultural connections to enhance the opportunities for students on campus. He is also a leader in the St. Louis community, serving as a member of the Hispanic leaders group and helping to coordinate many cultural events throughout the year.

Mathias Jackson

Mathias Jackson graduated in 2006 with a BA in international relations, and in 2007 with a MA in international relations. He served in a variety of leadership roles as an undergraduate, with highlights including: serving as president and graduate senator for the Student Government Association, resident assistant (RA) for two years in housing and residential life, and member of the Residential Housing Association, the tennis team, the swim team, and the homecoming committee. He also studied abroad in Japan and served as graduate assistant for the Center for International Education.

Following graduation, Jackson served in the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan for two years. His experience since then includes serving as a district executive for the Atlanta area Boy Scouts, business development manager for Chemonics International where he worked with international development projects in 27 countries in Africa and Eurasia, associate director of international business development for Macfadden, working on projects in 10 countries. He is currently the senior business development manager for Plan International, operating out of the Washington, DC area. He is married to Emma, a Conservatory graduate. They have a 2-year-old son Virgil and are expecting their second child to arrive in late September.

Jackson’s nominator commented that he led by example and his inclusive approach encouraged others to get involved. He played a major role in showing university administration that students could handle weighty issues, such as budgets and issues that affected not just the University but the Webster Groves area as a whole. Throughout his career at Webster, Mathias promoted international involvement and understanding.

Tyler Holman

Tyler Holman graduated in 2012 with a BA in political science. Holman served in a variety of leadership roles as an undergraduate, with highlights including: serving as president of the Student Ambassadors, senator in the Student Government Association, president of the College Republicans, president of the Student Alumni Association, a Delegates’ Agenda presenter, a Gorlok Guide, and as a chartering member the Delta Upsilon social fraternity.

Holman took a break from his studies to work on the campaign of Tom Schweich, who was running for state auditor. As an alumnus, he is vice president of the Webster Alumni Board and made a presentation to the Webster Groves City Council regarding a zoning ordinance that had major implications for the University. Holman has served as a presenter at annual leadership awards ceremonies, and has been involved with the Webster Young Alumni Chapter.

Following graduation, Holman worked as the political director for Republican Dave Spence’s campaign for governor. He also worked as a senior business development manager for Pritikin ICR. He is currently a business development analyst for Legacy Pharmaceutical Packaging. He is also a political analyst for KTRS radio and principal at Holman Strategies LLC. 

Holman's nominator commented on how he met challenges and overcame them in the pursuit of organizations and issues that he supported. He also helped to transition from the Student Alumni Association to the Student Ambassadors, and created a lasting, sustainable program for student leaders working productively with the office of advancement.

Eligibility

Former students, employees, and other individuals who have made significant contributions to student life at Webster University are eligible for selection to the Student Life Hall of Fame. Nominees must be graduates of Webster University and have graduated at least three years prior, or were former Webster University employees who left the University at least three years prior to selection.
