Former Women's Soccer Great Christy Capkovic Named to SLIAC Hall of Fame Class of 2018

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the members of their 2018 Hall of Fame Class, and one of the honorees in this year's class is former Webster University women's soccer player Christy Capkovic. Capkovic will be joined in the Hall of Fame by Drew Clark (Principia College, men's cross country and track & field), Alicia Girbes-Pierce (Principia College, women's soccer), Paul Moyer (Westminster College, baseball) and Troy Stephenson (Westminster College, men's tennis).

This year's SLIAC Hall of Fame inductees will be honored during the league's annual Award Banquet, which is scheduled for May 15 at the Tapawingo National Golf Club in Sunset Hills, Missouri.

With five inductees into the SLIAC Hall of Fame this year, it will be just the fifth time in league history an induction class has included five or more players, and including last year's class of six inductees, marks the first time the league has inducted back-to-back classes of at least five members.

Capkovic earns her spot in the SLIAC Hall of Fame after being a standout member of Webster's women's soccer program from 2007-10. In her career as a Gorlok, Capkovic, who is from St. Louis and graduated from Mehlville High School, scored a total of 88 goals and added 47 assists and totaled 223 points. She ranks in the Top 25 all-time in NCAA Division III women's soccer history for career goals and in 2009, she led the country in goals and points per game as she finished the season with 33 goals and 78 points.

She remains the Gorloks career leader in game-winning goals with 16 and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-America in 2010, just the fifth player in league history to receive that honor. She was a four-time All-SLIAC selection and earned Scholar All-Region honors in both 2009 and 2010. In 2017, Capkovic was inducted into the Webster University Athletics Hall of Fame.

"Christy Capkovic was a true competitor," said Webster women's soccer coach Luigi Scire. "Christy's competitiveness and tremendous confidence in her scoring abilities separated her from the others. For some challenges can be difficult, for Christy, the challenges were opportunities to showcase her talents."

With her selection, Capkovic becomes the 10th Webster student-athlete to be inducted into the SLIAC Hall of Fame. Last year, two former Webster student-athletes were inducted, as volleyball player Crystal (Shelton) Spinner and women's basketball player Katy Meyer joined the Hall of Fame ranks. In addition, Capkovic will also become just the sixth women's soccer player to be enshrined in the SLIAC Hall of Fame and second from Webster as she joins Niki Martinez (1999-02), who was inducted in 2008.
