Hunt Gallery presents "ILSSA Implement: Essential Tools for Living"

Join the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts for the Hunt Gallery opening reception of "ILSSA Implement: Essential Tools for Living" on Friday, Nov. 16, with a special preview for the Webster University community starting at 5:30 p.m.

Artist and ILSSA co-founder, Emily Larned, will speak briefly at 6:45 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

Larned will speak about the exhibition and about ILSSA at the DADAH Friday Forum on Friday from noon-1 p.m. in Sverdrup 123.

About the Exhibition

"Implement" is ILSSA’s latest participatory art project, which explores and expands the potential of the toolkit, inviting individuals to consider and share what they deem to be essential tools for living.

What do you always have with you? What are you grateful for? What do you take for granted? What would you take with you while evacuating? What makes a perfect day? What keeps you going? What do you need but can’t find? What nourishes you?

Special Feature

The exhibition will include a small “take a book (and/or leave a book)” library. Exhibition Curator Jeffrey Hughes (DADAH) is asking for the Webster community’s participation by bringing a book from your shelf that would be happy to live on someone else’s. The subject matter should be (very broadly defined) tools for survival. Please bring the book to Hunt Gallery or Hunt House by Wednesday, Nov. 14 for inclusion in the exhibition. 

About ILSSA

Established in 2008 by artists Bridget Elmer and Emily Larned, Impractical Labor in Service of the Speculative Arts (ILSSA) is an evolving participatory art and publishing project committed to process and reflection. ILSSA is a membership organization for artists and makers that fosters community, and an imprint that publishes new ideas, tools, and resources. As a union for creative practitioners, ILSSA focuses on improving the immaterial working conditions of its members. ILSSA observes an annual holiday, the Festival to Plead for Skills; organizes participatory exhibitions and events; and facilitates an annual group residency.
