Rothenbuhler on Admission Scandal, Finding the Fit

School of Communications Dean Eric Rothenbuhler was interviewed by KMOX 1120 AM radio about the “college admission scandal” where ultra-wealthy parents paid people to fake SAT tests, college admission applications, and also sent bribes to coaches.

He says all the evidence shows that it doesn't matter where you go to school, it's how you engage with the school that you do go to.

"How you engage, how you take advantage of the opportunities that are at every decent university is the key. They're all good places to be. It's how you engage the university and not the prestige or the title of the place."

He suggests helping your child find a campus where they will thrive. "Find a school where your child is special rather than looking for a special school."

Webster alumna Mary Pat Seurkamp has been selected by the Baltimore Sun for induction into its Civic and Business Hall of Fame. She and 11 other inductees will be honored in a special section of The Sun and at an induction dinner in early June.

"During 15 years as its president, Mary Pat Seurkamp transformed the College of Notre Dame of Maryland into Notre Dame of Maryland University. The first layperson to lead the school on a permanent basis, she preserved the institution’s women’s college while expanding its undergraduate programs, establishing its first doctoral program and creating its college of pharmacy."

Frazier on Internet Safety for Children

Paul Frazier, cybersecurity professor in the George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology, was interviewed on CBS affiliate KMOV this month about how to keep young children safe on the Internet.

"The problem is not the technology. The problem is the education and people have to be aware of the dangers that are out there," said Frazier in the interview.

Frazier suggests making the topic of internet usage and open dialogue between children and their parents.

"Don't lecture them, just say 'I want to make sure you're aware of these challenges,'" said Frazier.
