Virtual Internship Expo Connects 70 Communications Students with Recruiters
November 16, 2020
On Nov. 12, the School of Communications welcomed nearly 70 students to the first
Virtual Internship Expo, part of its Communications Careers Week. Students met virtually
with recruiters using Handshake, participating in over 100 one-on-one interviews and
almost 20 group information sessions while learning about internship opportunities
for Spring, Summer and Fall 2021.
The Director of the Internship Program hosted this recruitment event in the School of Communications with support from the Career Planning and Development Center and School of Communications staff, faculty and administration.
Employers raved about the event and the qualified and prepared students of the School of Communications.
“First, congratulations on a successful event! Overall, so pleased with the day. Tremendous students who interviewed like seasoned professionals,” said Abby Frohne, assistant director of Marketing, COCA-Center of Creative Arts.
“The Expo was a fantastic introduction to Webster students, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with them one on one to learn about the individual, their major, and how they were able to apply it to theatre,” said Cole Butcher, production stage manager and internship director, The Naples Players.
“It speaks volumes of your students how they are able to think out of the box to pursue a career and their passion in fields beyond the obvious. I am excited and looking forward to working more with you, Webster University, and the students.”
“Students were prepared and eager to connect with internship recruiters in this virtual environment," said Trezette Dixon, director, Internship Program, School of Communications. "This virtual event using Handshake was extremely valuable during this time when on campus events are restricted. It allowed us to continue to provide an internship recruiting opportunity for our students but also a lesson in virtual recruitment, which is an essential part of the new recruitment strategies used by most employers. It couldn't happen without collaboration from the wonderful faculty and staff in the School of Communications and Career Planning and Development Center."
The event attracted national and international employers with headquarters in St. Louis and a global footprint, ranging from Fortune 500, Government and Non-Profit organizations representing a variety of industries.
