School of Communications Virtual Internship Poster Presentations
July 27, 2020
On Wednesday, July 22, the School of Communications Internship Program hosted its first Virtual Internship Poster Presentations presented by the summer interns under the leadership of Trezette Dixon, director School of Communications Internship Program. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, students remained focused and secured internships that will shape their future careers and life after Webster.
This summer, students representing all three departments within the School of Communications, participated in amazing on-site and remote internships for credit. The poster presentations showcased their academic application, career development, industry contributions and site observations, using Zoom as the virtual format. Faculty and staff of the university attended this unique event that allowed everyone a glimpse into the life of an intern.
“It’s one thing to study hard at school and excel in academics and it’s an entirely other thing to gain knowledge through real world experiences. This internship has given me this opportunity.” Karlie Farmer, senior, Audio Production,Real Media, LLC, in Kansas City, Missouri. Farmer has been offered a position at her internship site upon graduation in August.
“Ethan is very conscientious and committed to doing good work. He works hard. He spent countless hours editing video. He poured himself into his work, demonstrating his strong work ethic as he meticulously went about editing video.” Ron Watermon, internship supervisor and owner, StorySmart Creative Social Media, praising the contributions of Ethan Thompson while adapting to a remote internship.
The Internship Program in the School of Communication is strategically designed to offer a comprehensive academic and real world experience combined with professional development, equipping students to be successful professionals in their chosen field of study.
“I look forward to the time when we can host large group events on campus again, but until then, I will keep finding innovative ways to engage our faculty and staff and allow our students to showcase their academic and career development," said Trezette Dixon, director, Internship Program, School of Communications. “The pandemic has definitely presented challenges in obtaining internships, but I have not let that change my commitment to preparing our students to be resourceful and competitive while embracing the opportunity to grow professionally and personally during these uncertain times.”
