New College of Science and Health 

KMOV ran a story about the University's recent announcement of the College of Science and Health set for June 1. President Julian Schuster was quoted in the story, "Webster University launches new College of Science and Health."

“The formation of the new college is a natural evolution of the growth of our health and science programs,” said Schuster. “The new College will bring greater focus to the needs of the health and science programs and improve the experience for students and faculty by teaching the skills that are sought after in tomorrow’s workforce.”

Belo on Russia/Ukraine

Smith on Disinformation in Russia/Ukraine 

Professor Julie SmithMedia Literacy Professor Julie Smith was interviewed live on KMOX on Feb. 24 about the disinformation that quickly spread on the Internet after Russia invaded Ukraine. The interview can be seen on YouTube.

Phoenix Television Station KPNX also spoke to Smith for the piece "5 tips for spotting misinformation amidst Russian conflict," where she shared some tips on how to navigate today's complicated media landscape. 

Smith said Russia's modern tactics are no different than when warring nations would drop pieces of propaganda from the sky. "What the Russians are doing now is the digital equivalent of dropping leaflets from airplanes," she said.

Chancellor Stroble Quoted in Microsoft's Education Blog

Chancellor Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble was quoted in Microsoft’s Education Blog about the impact of the pandemic and remote learning has had on students, and how higher education institutions continue to adapt their program offerings and instruction while addressing equity issues exacerbated by the pandemic.

Her quote from the recently released paper, the 2021-2022 Multimodal Learning Framework, was highlighted as a pull quote in the article "Driving innovation and equity in higher ed with multimodal learning."

Bill Hall on Congress Trading Stocks

Bill HallProfessor Bill Hall was interviewed by Capital.com about whether members of Congress should be forbidden from trading stocks. The issue has been raised several times in the past decade after reports showed that members of Congress acted on confidential information garnered during security briefings and made stock trades that benefitted them personally.

In the article, "Should US Congress members be banned from trading stocks?," Professor Hall spoke to the uncertainty of the effectiveness that any such restrictions would have, stating that proposing new laws “smacks of just piling higher and deeper. This reliance upon throwing additional laws, rules, and policies at the problem is akin to kicking the can down the road.”

DEI Conference in St. Louis American

2022 Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Conference The St. Louis American ran a story in support of the upcoming DEI Conference, "Webster U DE&I Conference delves into community inequities: 'What Can We Do' sessions March 1-2."

The article included the two-day conference's full schedule and highlighted Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, who will offer the conference’s keynote address at 7 p.m. Tuesday. March 1.

Woody Cooper Republished 

Professor Jameca Woody Cooper’s interview with the The Washington Post in early February about high- functioning depression was republished by several newspapers across the U.S. Here is one version. 

People often “carry this image of individuals who are crying, who are stuck in bed, who are suicidal,” Woody Cooper said, “when, in fact, it actually looks totally different in people who are functioning every day.”

Webster Student Recipient of Prestigious Arts Fellowship

Webster University Student Zipporah CunninghamThe St. Louis American featured Webster University student Zipporah Cunningham receiving  the Gyo Obata Fellowship through the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis. 

Cunningham, a senior in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts, earned this 10-week paid summer internship offered to undergraduate students pursuing careers in arts management.

Croghan Discusses MLB Lockout 

Jack Croghan, sports and entertainment management program director, was interviewed by FOX 2 News on Feb. 23. He discussed the current Major League Baseball Lockout, what it means for fans and area businesses, and what hopes there are that the season will start on time.
