University Statement on Supreme Court Decision Regarding Affirmative Action

Yesterday’s U. S. Supreme Court ruling in two cases challenging the use of race as a criterion for university admissions has generated concern on the part of many members of the Webster University community. We understand the attention this decision requires and the questions it has raised for us.

It is important to state that one of Webster University’s core values is its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. It is a historic and mission-driven marker which guides us in creating an environment accessible to all. It instills in students, alumni and the broader university community a respect for diversity and an understanding of themselves and others. There is continued work to do, and we are resolute in staying true to our vision, mission and core values. We have welcomed all and seek to provide resources that support all students, meeting their unmet needs in the many forms they take. Webster University remains committed to attracting, serving, and graduating a diverse student body, after all, it is fundamental to who we are.
