Webster University and Northampton Community College Create a New Path for Students to Earn Psychology Degrees

Webster University

Northampton Community College students pursuing Associate of Arts in Psychology or Associate in Applied Science in Counseling Psychology degrees can easily transfer into Webster University’s psychology programs under a new articulation agreement between the two institutions.

Under the agreement, all psychology-related coursework completed at Northampton will be applied to Webster psychology degrees. This will shorten the amount of time students need to earn a Webster degree, thus saving them money in the long run. Additionally, Northampton transfer students will have access to many Webster programs, including scholarships for transfer students and Webster’s unique study-abroad network. One of the programs will even transition students from a bachelor’s into a master’s degree, further saving them money.

“Webster recognizes that the process of moving from a two-year program to a four-year program must be as seamless as possible to help students attain their educational goals,” Webster University President Tim Keane said. “Webster has been nationally recognized for its transfer programs, and it’s the reason why so many community colleges are now reaching out to Webster to create these programs for the benefit of their students.”

Under the new agreement, Northampton students pursuing associate’s degrees in psychology or applied science in counseling can transfer into the following programs at Webster:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Emphasis in Mental Health
  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Emphasis in Mental Health + Master of Arts in Counseling
  • Bachelor of Science in Psychological Science

Besides the ease of transferring to Webster, the University also offers scholarships to transfer students. Called the Network for Enrollment and Transfer (NEXT), students transferring from a community college that has an articulation agreement with Webster could receive up to $1,000 that would be applied to a student’s annual tuition costs. The scholarships are renewable annually. To qualify, students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and remain in good academic standing. In addition, transfer students can automatically qualify for numerous academic merit awards ranging from $11,000 to $17,000 annually.

Transfer students also receive other benefits, such as opportunities to study abroad at one of Webster’s campuses in Europe or Asia, or to study at one of the dozens of other campuses around the world that have joined the Webster International Network of Schools (WINS).

Additionally, Webster’s psychology programs are all offered online. Students can complete their entire psychology degree from the comfort of their homes and on their timeline, giving them the flexibility to pursue their educational goals in a manner that best meets their needs. Much like the growth of transfer students, the demand for online classes is one of the fastest growing segments in higher education in the U.S.

Webster is one of only a few colleges where its online programs are taught by the same professors who teach in person. This allows online students to receive the same high-quality instruction as offered in the classroom, with opportunities to interact in real time with professors who have years of real-life experience in the field and interact with classmates from across the country. Among the faculty who teach in the program is Dr. Linda Woolf, the incoming President of the American Psychology Association, which is the largest professional association for psychologists in the country.

The scholarships available for transfer students, the multiple agreements with community colleges to make transferring easier, the study-abroad and study-online opportunities and numerous other support programs available to Webster students are among the many reasons why Webster has been named a top school for transfer students for nine consecutive years. Currently, transfer students from numerous institutions across the Midwest can choose from more than 50 different transfer paths. Northampton, which is located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is the first institution from the NorthEast to join the growing number of Webster transfer partners.
