Student Success Portal Updates for Spring II, 2020
March 13, 2020

Some exciting developments have been occurring with regard to the Student Success Portal, powered by Starfish. Below are the details on these additional attributes, non-US campus integration and on-boarding and other updates to the website.
Additional attributes
Financial Aid has been partnering with the Starfish Team to find ways to improve student communication and outreach regarding pending Financial Aid documents and steps to complete students’ Financial Aid processing. To that end, two new attributes are now available as searchable filters and will also display on students’ Overview screens:
- Financial Aid Pending Documents, Current Academic Year
- Financial Aid Pending Documents, Next Academic Year
These attributes will allow members of students’ Success Networks to help inform the
students of their pending documents as well as allow Financial Aid to leverage student
communication options available through the Student Success Portal.
In addition to these Financial Aid attributes, the Graduated or Left attribute has been broken out to include two additional attributes:
- Graduated
- Left the University
The Graduated, Graduated or Left, and Left the University attributes are all available for faculty and staff use in filtering for their desired student lists.
The full list of attributes, steps to access them and best practices can be found here.
More non-US campus integration and on-boarding
In addition to Leiden, both the Athens and Geneva campuses now have all applicable (student-facing) staff members in Starfish. The campuses are currently exploring training and on-boarding plans with support from the Starfish Team.
The University is also taking steps to move the Ghana, Thailand, and Uzbekistan campuses forward so that their staff members will be able to access Starfish. The timeline for their access is dependent on completion of several tasks by various personnel and departments and, therefore, is uncertain at this time.
After Leiden’s on-boarding in November, the Leiden campus has been engaging with the Spring 2020 Progress Surveys. Leiden faculty completed the Spring/Spring I Early Term Progress Survey at a higher rate (58.7 percent) than the rate for faculty teaching all courses included in the Spring/Spring I Early Term Progress Survey (44.9 percent). Congratulations, Leiden!
Updates to the website

- Calendar of Surveys 2020-2021 – This document includes all Attendance Verification and Progress Surveys and dates for the 2020-2021 academic year.
These documents are available via the For Faculty and For Advisors & Staff tabs of the website.
